secret oyster

Possibly the foremost fusion band to emerge out of Europe in the 70's was the Danish super sogroup SECRET OYSTER.

Drawing on their improvisational skills developed while fronting their individual bands, Secret Oyster set out to explore their mutual ground.

Their four acclaimed albums brought them on to the touring circuit with Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Billy Cobham, Shakti and Captain Beefheart in the U.K. A concert in Hamburg saw both the Herbie Hancock Band (with Wah-Wah Watson) and Secret Oyster perform together in a fusion meltdown.

Two T.V. performances on B.B.C. show "Old Grey Whistle Test" saw the band embraced by U.K. fusion fans, while the German T.V. equivalent "Rock Palace" also helped cement the band's reputation.

Secret Oyster climbed the U.S. Billboard FM charts to Number 13 and caught the attention of the Royal Danish Ballet. This resulted in a new collaboration of works: As you would expect from a Danish 1970s ballet, it had a lot of beautiful naked dancers performing to Secret Oyster's music.

Live, the band was busy touring countries like Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Faroe Island, Scotland, England, Germany, France and Denmark. One Paris concert was a 30,000 sell out. Like many other bands of their day, Secret Oyster dispersed in late 70"s to allow members to pursue their individual ambitions.

The re-release of their albums on CD in the US prompted the band to reunite and tour more extensively than ever to great success. Their concert at NEARfest in Bethlehem near New York City in June 2007 was recorded for the 2008 CD release "Live in the USA". They returned to the US in August 2008 to play Orion, Baltimore, ProgDay, North Carolina to name a few and continue a steady tour schedule throughout Europe.

Secret Oyster will be touring the US and Canada again in 2009 .
